Non-profit organisations are used to reporting on their actions. But where they were accustomed to reporting primarily to the supervisory board and subsidies providers, non-profit organisations are now increasingly reporting on their responsibility to society. The key word in this context is transparency. In addition, risk management is becoming more and more important in the non-profit sector. This involves identifying and analysing risks that are significant to the organisation. However, besides pointing to negative events, risks also indicate opportunities.
Finally, the role played by directors of non-profit organisations is changing. Directors are also supervisors and need to take active steps to seek out information on the organisation. The information system used at the organisation and the arrangements agreed between the management and the supervisors need to be geared to this. This calls for active communication between all concerned.
